Background:
In October 2012 there will be a huge nonviolent people’s action in India. 100,000 landless and homeless people will walk 300 km in 30 days from Gwalior to Delhi, for the right to ownership of the land they till. They will walk, eat and sleep on the road itself. They are demanding implementation of laws to protect land, water and forest from corporate land-grab for industrial development. Determined to pressurise the Indian government into action, they are bringing international attention to issues that affect indigenous and rural people across the globe. Ultimately, all of us depend on these same natural resources for life. The action is organised by Ekta Parishad (People’s Unity) www.ektaparishad.com, and follows in the Gandhian tradition of mass nonviolent action.
