Movement Day

This was a conference for Christians who are involved in “unity for mission movements” such as Together4Bristol, looking to see their town or city transformed by the love of God and His kingdom. For more details see Movement Day UK, which happened at Westminster Central Hall, London on 6 and 7 October. Roger Sutton of Gather set up the conference. A group of 16 people went from Bristol.

The two-day event was a space for leaders from churches and those working in business, arts, health, politics, local government, media, education and more to engage in a unique conversation as we imagined a better future for our towns and cities. There were about 800 people there, from about 130 places in the UK, plus several from overseas, such as the USA, Australia, South Africa and Europe. The speakers included Marvin Rees, the Mayor of Bristol.

A couple of highlights were a prayer rally on Parliament Square, led by the 6 Presidents of Churches Together in England, to declare our unity and to pray for the nation.

During one plenary session, four of the Bristol Team (Marvin Rees, Sheena Tranter, Andy Street and Roger Allen) formed a panel to share about how the different spheres of life work in the Bristol region, since Gather are encouraging the unity movements across the UK to get more involved in transforming the whole or spheres of life. The whole conference prayed for Bristol (see the photo).

Everyone enjoyed hearing stories from across the UK and the world and came back with plenty of ideas for the future!
