The Bristol Region
The Bristol region is difficult to define. It centres on the city of Bristol, with links to the surrounding region, which is sometimes called the West of England. This is a local government sub-region within the South West of the UK. From the 1970s to the 1990s it was known as the county of Avon. More recently it's been divided between the four unitary authorities: Bristol, South Gloucester, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset.
This local government cooperation reflects the social cohesion that's always been present in this region, no doubt encouraged by the navigational and land routes inland afforded by the Avon river valley.
Although most of our networking takes place within the city of Bristol, there are many important links with the surrounding region. For more about the activities of Bristol networks see: about us.
