NAME THAT BOAT!

We were very excited in mid-February 2011 to read in the local North Somerset Times newspaper that a local rowing club - the Clevedon Pilot Gig Club  - were inviting the public to chose between 6 names for their new boat, being built in Bristol.

Each month since September 2009 we (Prayer 4 Clevedon, see website here) had been meeting in the local Town Hall, under a shield with the Clevedon coat-of-arms and Latin motto. Now we learned that this motto, in English, was one of those being offered for the public vote. We joined the vote, and saw this motto win by 24% to 22%.

The boat was rowed from Bristol to Clevedon on 12th March.

You will see from the photo, with the shield, why we were excited, and why we are delighted that this motto is now boldly on the prow of this beautiful boat, which is bound to invite questions as to its origin.

We are proud to be in a town with such a motto, which so concisely urges us on in our quest to bless the town through prayer.
