Operation Noah
Operation Noah is an ecumenical Christian charity providing leadership, focus and inspiration in response to the growing threat of catastrophic climate change.
How should Christians respond to global warming? Should the church be involved with politics? How do Christian values relate to climate change?
Operation Noah aims to tackle these questions in several ways.
Theology
Campaigning
-
We believe that the church needs to take the lead in promoting climate justice. We will take a prophetic role in challenging the church to do so.
-
Our vision is to work for the complete decarbonisation of the British economy by 2030.
-
Our current campaign, Bright Now, is aimed at persuading the Churches in the UK to disinvest from fossil fuel companies.
Equipping
-
We aim to equip churches to respond to climate change and global warming. We have created many resources for churches, from liturgical material to briefings on climate science.
-
We organise an annual supporters’ meeting with practical information and activities.
Prayer
-
We are working with other Christian organisations on a year of prayer and fasting for climate change during 2014–15.
-
We encourage our supporters to pray for our work.
Communication
-
We speak at many events organised by church groups and environmental organisations.
-
We produce a free email newsletter for supporters.
Partnerships
-
As part of the global disinvestment movement, we work closely with 350.org and People & Planet.
-
In 2014 we inaugurated a network of faith-based organisations active in climate change, looking at ideas for collaborative action.
-
We are part of the Climate Coalition (formerly known as Stop Climate Chaos) and actively support their campaigns.
