Bristol Named Gold Sustainable Food City

Brilliant news! We’re thrilled to announce that Bristol has been awarded the status of Gold Sustainable Food City by the UK partnership programme, Sustainable Food Places.

The award recognises the vast amount of work undertaken across the city to build a greener, healthier, fairer and more resilient food system – an amazing achievement considering the challenges of the last 18 months.

Bristol is only the second city in the UK to achieve the status, after Brighton and Hove was awarded the accolade last year.

The Partnership has been proud to be a coordinating partner alongside Bristol Food Network, Bristol City Council and Resource Futures, and we’d like to thank Partnership members for their support and contributions to the successful bid.

Part of the strength of the bid was the depth and breadth of the activity, with involvement and commitment from a huge range of individuals, organisations and public institutions.

This is not the end of the journey.

With food being such an important lever in achieving the city's climate and ecological goals, the Partnership will be continuing to support and motivate organisations to take further and faster action on key issues such as access to land for growing, food waste, food insecurity and supporting local and sustainable food businesses. You can view a summary document of the winning bid for gold status here.
