New beginnings
Happy New year to you all.
Over the first few weeks of the new year I have been reflecting on all that God has planned for me, my family and also Bristol Chaplaincy in 2023.
When I think of the ‘New Year’, the word ‘New’ always stands out to me. It fills me with excitement and hope that something ‘New’ is coming. It changes my mindset and gives me ideas and thoughts about the future.
Over the last year we have seen Bristol Chaplaincy grow and the connections we have with other chaplaincies in Bristol re-established and beginning to strengthen. We always look forward to our networking evenings where we go away with so much encouragement about what God is doing in Bristol through chaplaincy and through each one of you.
Chaplaincy, certainly is a unique ministry that has a big reach into places the church can’t get too, and with that opportunity comes a big responsibility. Our challenge as chaplains is to keep listening not only to the people we support, but listening to God and where he is leading and directing us.
I love the message of Isaiah 43:19 that says:
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
As we move into 2023, my question to you all is what is the ‘new thing’ that God is doing in your life, and in your chaplaincy? What are your new beginnings?

The Faith Communities Major Emergency Plan
If you were a victim in a major emergency, who would help you?
When a major incident occurs, the statutory services respond swiftly. However, the victims of major emergencies often need the sort of pastoral support these services are not equipped to provide. Faith communities can play an important part, but only if we are ready to respond in an effective, coordinated and appropriate way.
The Faith Communities Major Emergency Plan is holding familiarisation days for those who want to find out more on :
Thursday 16 February 2023: 10:00am - 3:00pm
Thursday 2 March 2023: 10:00am - 3:00pm
at Avon & Somerset Constabulary Headquarters, Valley Road, Portishead
and Thursday 23 March 2023: 10:00am - 3:00pm
at Flourish House, Wells
