We should all be free from hunger. No one should be struggling to afford the essentials in the UK, one of the richest countries in the world, in this day and age.
But they are. More and more people are struggling to survive, unable to afford the essentials, and have no option but to turn to a food bank.
A food bank director from our network tells us:
"We receive telephone calls every week from working parents saying that they are desperate and have run out of food to feed their children, or don't have enough money to pay for heating. You can hear the fear in their voices. Many have never used a food bank before and have no idea how it works."
This simply isn't right. As the cost of living continues to bite, we'll continue to campaign, alongside you, to make sure everyone has enough income to stay warm, fed and dry.
We need the government to take action now.
Our social security system should provide enough money so people can afford the essentials and live with dignity. We'll keep calling for a future where none of us need to turn to charity to get by.
That's where you come in.
We know that change happens when people think differently about an issue and your support will be vital in helping us reach more people with our message. We want more people to understand that it's not right that people are going without the essentials, and that our social security system should be there for us all when we need it.
Over the coming weeks we will be sharing ways in which you can support our work, and how to share our messages via social media.
Thank you for standing with us.
