The result of the pledge
22,000 emails were sent and 72% of candidates standing across the UK heard our call for a stronger social security system. 518 candidates signed our pledge and 123 of them went on to win their seats and become MPs. |
October
Over 3,000 of you emailed your MP, reaching 98% of MPs across the UK, urging them to write to the new Chancellor to take action on hardship.
Our collective voice was heard. The UK government made a first step towards a more supportive social security system, introducing a “Fair Repayment Rate in Universal Credit”. Read more about how this will reduce the amount that can be taken off people's Universal Credit payments here.

To round off the year, we brought a one-off publication straight to the UK government's doorstep that was filled with stories of hope and hardship from food banks, charities, faith groups, businesses, and people with lived experience of poverty.
